WEDNESDAY CLUB - Donovan - Turquoise
MIDWEEK CRISIS why is everything so black and white, come to WEDNESDAY CLUB we've got Donovan, Dylan, Joan and you will see the world is really coloured Turquoise,
Believe it or not I was aware of Donovan before I heard of Dylan. I first saw him on a classic music programme called Ready Steady Go it was revolutionary at the time and all the early greats appeared there, The Beatles, The Stones etc. Donovan as I recall had a guest spot for a few weeks singing topical stuff he did especially for the show. It was there I first heard his self penned song Catch the Wind which I thought was really different and innovative...that was until I heard Blowin in the Wind and The Times they are a Changin' by Dylan.
Donovan released Turquoise in 1965 as a single and it had only moderate success which I could not understand at the time, as it just blew me away and it still stands up to day as a classic.
Just close your eyes and you are by the sea and at the end you will be in a very good place indeed.
The story goes he wrote the song for none other than Joan Baez whom he claimed he was in love with. Joan later recorded the song.
Donovan has done many many good songs but this just has to be my favourite.

SB - in these days we all were in love with Joan...in Don't look back...poor Don looked like little boy lost and when Dylan sang Baby Blue...the gulf between them was there like a chasm
