DYLAN COVERS #86 Jimmy Page / Masterminds - She Belongs to Me
The song belongs to Me!
JIMMY PAGE/MASTERMINDS - She Belongs to Me (1965)
The Masterminds were a Liverpool group around 1964. They were quite popular in a
Liverpool club called the Blue Angel. One night The
Rolling Stones, with manager-producer Andrew Loog Oldham came to
the club after playing a gig at the Empire Theatre and saw the
Masterminds doing Bob Dylan songs.
Olham must have been impressed, as he signed them up to his new
Immediate Records label and they cut “She Belongs to Me,” their one and
only single, in the spring of 1965. None other than a young Jimmy Page happened to be the session guitarist player during the cutting of the song.
The Masterminds
I feel a bit guilty putting Jimmy's name first as really he is only the session guitarist and it demises the lads from the Masterminds in away. Don't you think? However, you can still find the track on Jimmy's album Hip Young Gunslinger (and his friends). and to be fair I suppose, at least they will get some royalties from that. It would be a bit difficult for them to release a greatest hits, seeing they only released the one record.
Fascinating find, sir. I rather like it and think it a shame the lads never got the chance of a follow-up. Love the way the singer falls into his Dylan impression.
