DYLAN COVERS # 164 Frank Black & Catholics/Jez Lowe - Changing of the Guards

The Queen of Swords

FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICS - Changing of the Guards (1998)

Here are a couple of fantastic covers of  Changing of the Guards, both I like a lot. The first one is by Frank Black and the Catholics and was included on a 4-track bonus CD that came with their 1998 self-titled album.

The second take is by Jez Lowe and can be found on the Dylan Covers compilation Younger Than that Now (2011)

The Frank Black version is a long time favourite, which I have on the b-side of a 7". Good to hear it again.
I've not come across the Jez Lowe take before. Nice to hear a different approach to this great song.

I know this is probably not what was intended but...I have to say, there is, and has never been, a sharper martial appearance than the foot guards (Irish in this case?).
I freely admit that there are probably 500 hundred different problems and issues to be raised by a picture like this but, the sheer aesthetic appeal of it can't be denied.

Oh the covers are great too.

EB - and still the Queen of Scots.
I am quite happy Scotland is still part of the United Kingdom to. It rounds of that aesthtic appeal.

Some of the proposed flags...without St Andrew's...were truly horrific. The green one looked like a Christmas present.

When I was real little I had a set of six Guards, skittles, that fitted on a peg board with wheels. I pulled them things around til the wheels wore off.
