TRACKS OF THE WEEK 01-04-2018 - First Aid Kit, Oumou Sangaré, Lea Porcelain, Blossoms, Ivan Moult
Tracks Of The Week
First Aid Kit - 'It's a Shame'
A new Album by the fabulous First Aid Kit has been a long time coming, they even have on board R.E.M. guitarist (Mr PB himself) all good. With a brilliant Dylan Blonde on Blonde organ, I'm trapped and hooked.

Oumou Sangaré - Fadjamou (TwoTek Remix)(2018)
Sadly, it's been awhile since I've posted anything on this blog. Tune Dr has recently 'celebrated' its 7 year birthday and many things have happened since then. But whilst the blog has been floating aimlessly in its own web version of the Bermuda Triangle, the music has still been weaving its magical, aural Babaganoush. Last year's album by Malian songstress, Oumou Sangaré, Mogoya, was one of my favourites. However, this remix of Fadjamou is taken off a new release of reworks of that album. Fabulous voice and beats....what's not to like.
London Scouser:-
Lea Porcelain - 'Gotta Run'
I don't know much about this band apart from that they are a German 2 piece who were recently name-checked by (friends of TD) Artificial Pleasures in an interview they did of the band's they were currently into. Their album 'Hymns To The Night' (released in 2017) has a bit of Joy Division about it I.M.O. although less so in this track but it's so good and catchy, that I can't stop listening to it. I dare you not to like it.
Shell Hunter:-
Blossoms- “I Can’t Stand It” (2018)
As soon as I heard this I thought, holy poop Future Islands have hit the main stream! I can only vaguely get Absolute Radio in the car which has kindly been leant to me by my eldest nephew and I can only play the variety of Absolute Radio stations at work (however I was “told off” for playing Absolute Rock the other day as it was anti-social!) Basically it means that I don’t get the alternative music fix that I crave, until however this great track came on! I’m quite happy about the amount of airplay it’s getting, it’s a great song and the fact that they have undertones of my faves, means it’s a well worthy 2 thumbs up!

Ivan Moult - 'Carried Over Water' (2018)
Carried Over Water features on Longest Shadow, which was released this week on Bubblewrap Collective. I first heard of Ivan Moult when he supported Willy Mason at the Buffalo bar in Cardiff and I immediately thought of Damien Rice / John Martyn / Nick Drake.
He said his new album was a "break-up album", however, it is not all heartbreak, it actually captures the full time-line of his romance - from the start to the bitter end. Like all the great singer-songwriters, a good (bad) break up can be the catalyst for some great songs. I think we've got some here.
Ivan Moult will be playing a handful of dates over the coming weeks:
12th April – Sofar Sounds, London
12th May – FOCUS Wales, Wrexham
16th May – The Gate, Cardiff
14th June – Festival of Voice w/ The Mavron Quartet – Wales Millennium Centre
29th June – Unearthed in a Field Festival – St Davids

Comments
FC- I like this “aural babaganush”!
LC- top trump this week! Good one!
SF- quite like this too, I get the Nick Drake
OP-pleasant enough, like SH said. Eggs sunny side up. Good video too
SH-though it was the Future Islands too, was ok. A bit hard boiled for me.
SFW-it was ok, hotel buffet scrambled eggs.
LS-but the extra spicy Huevos Ranchos with a sprig of parsley on top goes to Lea Porcelain. Great track, further helpings required.
OP - I like this, maybe they're the female 'Hanson' but a good track.
FC - okay, but I don't think it's my cup of tea.
SH - definitely get the 'Future Islands' connection, I also think it sounds a little 'Miles Kane' definitely a grower.
SFW - pleasant whilst not blowing me away.
My #TOTW goes to the blooming great 'Blossoms' track
