DC Basehead - 'Not Over You' (1992)
I love this track with it's looping scratch and piano and Micheal Ivey's laboured delivery adding to the smokey atmosphere. The sound of a broken man, there's a real feel of resignation here, a reluctance to move on or be helped as our protagonist is weighed under his lovesick stupour.Because of the unique nature of the song, I used to view it as a bit of a novelty record blissfully ignorant to it's real meaning. I would think.... 'Ah bless him, he must be upset...he sounds like he's in such a bad mood. It can't be that bad'! Little did I know a few years down the line, the track would take extra significance as I would get 'kicked in the ass by love' myself and would fully understand why he sounded so bloody miserable!

'Not Over You' is taken from DC Basehead's debut album Play With Toys and you'll be pleased to know that he is no longer gutted and has re-released his debut to coincide with it's 20th anniversary.
