DYLAN COVERS #42 - Cher - I threw it all Away/Tonight I'l be staying here with You/Lay Baby Lay

Dylan in sonny disposition

CHER - I Threw it all away

CHER - Tonight I'll be staying here with you

CHER - Lay Baby Lay

Here are a three of tracks by Cher from an album called  '3614 Jackson Highway' (1969).  I loved all the Dylan covers by Sonny & Cher in their early albums together. They managed to capture that great jingly jangle sound and it is worthwhile getting hold of the album 'The Best of the Imperial Recordings 1965-1968' which contains all these early Dylan covers in their remastered form. Cher's version of 'All I really want to do' is even better than the Byrds version (in my opinion only). I remember it so well both of them being in the top 10 at the same time.  Great stuff! great times!

These 3 tracks featured are all from Dylan's Nashville Skyline album and are not as well know as her earlier stuff.  I think however they are worth hearing and pretty good interpretations.

I was more than ready to give these a damn good kicking - until I started listening. I'll admit to being a very big fan of Cher's great 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves' but have an intense dislike for nearly everything else she has done in the past 30 odd years or so but these are great. Very soulful. Made me think of what Dusty may have done with them if she'd been pointed in Bob's direction. Did Ms. Springfield ever record any Dylan? Anyway, nice work Old Pa and Cher. I must try and find these for keeps.

SB Gypsy Tramps is fab record and some of her early stuff with Sonny is pretty good too....but after that ....it's all down hill for me. Shame as great voice....don't think Dusty has done a cover but will look into it. I have not got the Cher album but you can convert to Mp3 from the Youtube Vids.
