DYLAN COVERS #89 - Staple Singers - Masters of War/John Brown

Cleotha Staples R.I.P
This post is in memory of Cleotha Staples, one of the founding members of The Staple Singers, who died last week.  Cleotha had been suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for the past 12 years. She was 78. R.I.P.

STAPLE SINGERS - Masters of War (1964)

The Staple Singers first recorded the fabulous rendition of Masters of War in 1964. The track was later used as the backing track in a promotional video for the video game Resistance 3. The song can still be found on various best of collections.

The second offering here is from a live show in San Francisco on the 19th April 1968. It is a take of the rarely covered John Brown a brilliant anti war song.

I am sure you will agree both are top of the range Dylan Covers.

Fabulous. The Staples are among my favourite interpreters of Dylan. RIP, Ms. Staples.
