DYLAN COVERS #155 Flip City/Elvis Costello - It takes a lot to Laugh/Knocking on Heaven's Door

Flippin' Heck it's Elvis!

FLIP CITY - Knocking on Heaven's Door (74/75)

They all start somewhere and before Elvis Costello broke through for solo success he fronted the Band Flip City. They did the rounds in the London area during the early Seventies. Not only that they covered Dylan with  a Demo of Knocking on Heaven's Door. This can be found on the Boot Flip City Demos which can be found quite easily.

It takes a lot to Laugh, it takes a Train to Cry was also coverd at a live concert on the 30th November 1975 at the Red Cow in London. Good on ya Elvis!

Elvis isn't the vocalist on the cover of It Takes A Lot to Laugh. Other band members also sang lead sometimes.

I wonder if, in 1975, even in his WILDEST dreams, Elvis ever thought he might one day share a mic with his Bobness. I've been lucky enough to see it happen on stage a couple of times.

Didn't every pub band in the universe play 'Knockin'' back in the 70's? Elvis soon picked up speed.
