LADY BY THE SEA

if you pass your travels this way
there's something you aught to see
a beautiful woman sits on a bench
and she stares out to the open sea
she's there in all kinds of weather
but it is there she wants to be
she wont turn to speak to anyone
no matter who you are even me
a hand shields sun from her eyes
she searches every boat or ship
arriving in the harbours safety
home from the perils of their trip

Oh! sweet Lady I feel your Pain
is she waiting there for her lover
who she waved goodbye at the quay
sailed the ocean to Havana's Port
back in her arms he wishes to be
was it her solider called to arms
taken to fight on a faraway shore
or is he a handsome minstrel boy
that she blindly loves to the core
you be kind and worthy of her love
not a scoundrel leaving on a ship
with promises and stolen innocence
leaving her in loves vice like grip

Oh! sweet Lady I feel your Pain!
if you pass at the dead of night
her ghostly vision will be there
she waits with hope in her heart
clutching a rosary reciting a prayer
the sea never makes a claim on her
the gulls all salute as they pass
kindly folk bring gifts of food
giving her strength for the task
please God that ship on the horizon
please God let that be the one
to bring home her love safely
and all her waiting will be done

For all you people
who think they know about Love
for you who are carefree
here is proof that love exists
our beautiful Lady waiting by the sea

I've no idea who Lady C might be, but Lady by the Sea is quite lovely Old Pa. Plus of course, splendid selections by Bolan & those Beatle chappies. I've never heard that mix of 'Lady Madonna' before.

I liked Lady C at first (it was that eating trial!) but have quickly tired of her and now glad to see her go. The young 'uns are this year's winners - let's hear it for Ferne and Vicky (love George but now you've said Andy Pandy I can't get it out of my head!)

Fine words, Old Pa. I love that seat, could do with one in my garden!

TS - don't know Lady C.....remids me of a joke that was going a few years back, Whats green and smell of pork - Kermit's middle finger....I told it to a guy and he said whats a Kermit? even better than the Joke.
C - with that seat you would also need the sea, a few ships and some dolphins....why not!!

I love this one, it is exactly the right feel to capture your imagination. It should rightfully be on a plaque next to her. I wonder if the translation into Spanish is as good? One of your best.
