De'lacy - Hideaway

Saturday Night Jukebox....
Everyone has a guilty pleasure

De'lacy - Hideaway (1995)

This is a true 90's one hit wonder dance anthem. It brings back fond memories of one of the first house parties I went to in my teens. It's strange, I don't remember any other song that played except this one, probably because someone had it on repeat for half the night! You had the supposed "cool" kids who were getting smashed out of their faces on their parent's bottle of Southern Comfort and chain smoking in the kitchen. The popular girls and guys were serial snogging with your average game of "spin the bottle". You even had a couple of girls bawling their eyes out at some drama or another in the toilet. I remember one girl pretending to be drunk and threatening she was going to pierce her own belly button with a safety pin. She just so happened to really fancy my boyfriend at the time and basically used that to get his attention, running off down the road with him in tow. Naive sod! As I often did at parties, I busied myself replacing all the Cd's into their relevant covers as they were strewn all over the place. What does that make me I wonder? A party nerd?! Whenever I hear Hideaway I always picture that montage of a typical teenage party!

Funny post, very well described, I can picture it all now and you the conscientious party goer, putting the cd's away. I wouldn't mind an 'average' game of spin the bottle myself though. Coincidentally this tracks reminds me also of a house party and trying to woo this girl, I was telling her all night how cool this 'alien' picture her brother had painted was. She offered to sell it to me and stupidly I accepted to buy the hideous thing, it didn't win her heart but she was quids in. I probably would have had better chance trying to pierce my own belly button. Excellent excellent tune!
