DYLAN COVER # 9 - Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings - One too many mornings

JOHNNY CASH & WAYLON JENNINGS - One too Many Mornings

One too Many Mornings from the 'Times they are a Changin' album is not one of the most covered Dylan songs, but it is just great to hear two of 'the Outlaws' singing this duet. What fantastic voices they both have, I bet they sure must have lived a million miles between them.

I never really worked out what the song was about, until I read a quote:

"It's the sound of someone too smitten by love to harbor regrets, grown too independent to consider a reunion"

I suppose that sounds about right and we will leave it at that. Shame really, I thought it could be about going to Pat's Bar for a last 'one' on the way home and getting seriously  pissed and suffering the next day. It goes to show, what do I know? and that you don't have to be an 'intellectual' to appreciate Dylan .

Here is another one and a chaser for the road :
Johnny Cash - Girl from the North Country

Thanks for all the great Bob Dylan covers you’ve been posting. Like you, I’ve long been obsessed with finding great Dylan covers and I’m grateful for some of the obscure ones you’ve unearthed. The 3 Hendrix versions of Like A Rolling Stone were worth the subscription fee alone. When I was younger I put together a list of my own favourite Dylan covers at a site called Everything They Could Steal. Keep up the good work.

Good work, as ever. I'll have to admit that, even though I'm a big Cash fan, I don't particularly like him covering Dylan. He tends to do something to Bob's songs that I just don't feel works. Still, that just me. Looking forward to hearing more Dylan covers from you soon.

SB I think I have to agree with you there, his 'biggy' Dylan Cover 'It aint me babe' did nothing for me...got a good one for you next week to make up for it.
Loved the Cash American recordings series

I love Dylan's version of this on his bootleg album Live 1966.
