DYLAN COVER #26 - George Harrison (part 1) - I Don't wanna do it (Band & Acoustic versions)

GEORGE HARRISON - I Don't wanna do it (Band version)

GEORGE HARRISON - I don't wanna do it(acoustic version)

It is only recently I became aware that this song was actually written by Mr D, certainly not one of his better known efforts.

The song was apparantly written in 1970 and was little known, until George Harrison released his version.  There are two versions of the song: the single version, distinguished by a guitar solo in the middle; and the version included in the soundtrack of the film, Porky's Revenge which is distinguished by its organ solo instead of guitar.

There is also a demo version of the song which was recorded during the sessions for Harrison's 1970 album 'All things must pass' and can be found on various bootlegs. I found it on 'Accoustic Masters' and it is not officially released.

Blimey...new one on me. No reference to it in Michael Gray's 'Encyclopedia' but I note that Clinton Heylin has a page on it in 'Revolution In The Air'. I'd not noticed this before (or read it in a daze of information overload). Listening to George's version, it doesn't, to these ears, sound much like anything Bob may have recorded himself in the early 70's. Maybe that's why he gave it away? Thanks for the introduction to the song.

The Acoustic version sounds to me like George just playing his mates' song.....it would fit perfectly on Scorsese's documentary and again makes you wish that the great man was still around today!

I recall hearing Dylan on the Rockline radio show circa '85-'87 and a listener asked Bob about this song. I distinctly remember Bob chuckling and saying something along the lines of "Yeah, I dunno where George dug up that one..." It almost made me wonder if it could possibly be a song written by GEORGE that he was crediting to Bob as some sort of in-joke. It's never been listed in Bob's Lyrics books or even on his website as one of his compositions...

Thanks for that, I thought it may stir up a hornets nest. You may very well be right as it definately sounds George like. Come on Bob tell the the truth!

I always thought this was a fantastic "lost" song. Way too good to have been shoved off on Porkey's Revenge. I was sooooo disappointed when I heard the official version and they and taken out that beautiful guitar solo. My friend told me who the guitar player was on that record, but I can't remember his name. Anybody know?
