Wednesday Club.....Whiskey in Cairo
WILLIE NELSON - Whiskey River
I was sent to Cairo for our annual Conference meeting. It was basically all places which had been cutover to an Automated Cargo System. They would come and air their views and complaints and would be updated of new features etc. In other words a bit of a jolly.
I was responsible for arranging everything, setting it up and hosting it. The evening before everything was in place and after a few drinks with some old friends in the bar, I decided I had better get off to bed as I had to do last minute arrangements in the morning. It was probably about just after midnight.

Suddenly I was awakened by the phone ringing. I was summoned to the Big Boss's Suite. He had hardly spoken 2 words to me all the time I was in Jeddah. 'Bloody hell' it is after 0100 in the morning, what on earth had I done wrong?.
I knocked apprehensively at the door and was let in. My god there were about 20 people in his Suite, there were bottles everywhere. Most guys were on the floor. For some reason Arabs seem to like to sit on the floor.
I was offered a drink and everyone kept coming up and pouring more and more and more pure malt into my glass. It was considered inpolite to refuse and after all I am a Scotsman. Before long, I was sitting next to the Big Boss he had his arms round me and telling me what a fine fellow I was . He said not to drag the meeting out too long tomorrow as he had arranged a boat trip on the Nile with buffet, belly dancers and free drinks.
'You are a top man Mr Khalid, your are the Boss of Bosses' A little compliment does not hurt every now and then.
I crept out after 0400 in the morning and I was as seriously pissed as a camel with no legs. I ordered breakfast for 0800 and thought that might just get me up. The door rung at 0800 on the dot. I felt like death, so I just took it in and went back to bed. The phone rang again at 0855, a friend said I better get down, as there are people waiting to get into the Conference Room.
I don't know how I did it but I got there and got things going. The Big Boss never turned up in the morning. I survived to the first tea break. (Tea break my arse)
I headed for the bar for a strong reviver.
Roll on the evening, River Cruise and Belly dancers. Now there was a story that has to be told!!.
