A Tribe Called Quest - 'Jazz (We've Got) (1991)
My mother used to say '...but you can't do the 'Running Man' to this song' and that may have been true. The number one dance move and mating ritual of the early 90's may have been blunted by the mellowing of Hip-Hop but don't let that detract you from the fact that this is Hip-Hop at its finest. Taken from the classic seminal album, 'The Low End Theory', this track paid homage to the bands Jazz influences. With the Tribe's trademark heavy beat, Phife's and Q-Tip's quirky deliveries and clever use of sampling this track epitomised everything I love about Hip-Hop.
It was a golden age in Hip-Hop where many of their contemporaries were releasing influential and innovative albums which would define the future of Hip-Hop and A Tribe Called Quest were at the forefront of it all.
So no need to run frantically on the spot to this number, just kick back, bob your head and enjoy.
