Spiritualized - 'I Think I'm in Love'

Recollection Collection......musical memories recalled with affection!

Spiritualized - 'I think I'm in love' (1997)

I must have been really naive to think it was a song about a guy denying he was falling in love when it was actually about drugs. I recently read the lyric, 'Love in the middle of the afternoon, just me and my spike in my arm and my spoon', I doubt he was referring to making a cup of post coital tea for his missus. Obvious really, when the album was called 'Ladies and Gentlemen, We are Floating in Space' and the cover resembled a packet of subscription pills. Nevertheless, the hopeless romantic in me even put it on the ubiquitous cd for my wife, who I was courting at the time. My attempt to woo her was ultimately successful of course but she did point out that it was about a man not entirely convinced about his feelings. Oops.
You thought it was about what mate?

Misinterpretation aside, it didn't matter one jot as this is 8 mins of pure musical bliss, a beautiful and unique song which leaves you somewhere other than where it found you.

..Thursday I'm in love, a chance to share some of my favourite tunes..

Nice. I'll admit I've never really got into Spiritualized and the bands that preceded them. Not sure why but this is good. I like that marimba type sound in the background.

Fantastic song, but never really got into them either.. this always reminds me of Majorca, but the less said about that the better....

One of my favourite songs ever! It will always remind me of those all nighters, when the sun was just peeping through the conservatory windows. Surely it can't be morning yet! Oh well! Pass me another whisky and apple cordial! Yuck!
