NEW YEAR'S EVE JUKEBOX! - The Sugar Hill Gang - 'Rapper's Delight'

Happy New Year y'all!

The Sugar Hill Gang - 'Rapper's Delight' (1979)

I thought long and hard about what song I would want to hear at midnight if I was at a party tonight. What song has stood the test of time, is cool, funky and you can dance your heart out for a full 14 minutes? It's got to be this classic! Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn....say what!

Good clean fun

New Year's Eve not only means a whole year's worth of reflection or a long list of things you want to put right, but also reminds you of New Years' gone by. I'm probably not the only one but I remember The Millennium as one of my favourite New Year's Eves. One of my friends was wearing a wall clock around his neck Flava Flav style which I thought was hilarious. The last songs I heard of 1999 were Millennium by Killing Joke and of course the countdown was to Prince's 1999. We all shouted the last ten seconds and my parent's house erupted into an impromptu conga line out the door and into the street. No planes fell out of the sky, the DVD player and computer didn't self combust and the drinks continued to flow until well after sunrise. Bizarrely the last thing I remember before I passed out at 9am was watching my mum's Ricky Martin music video which she had got for Christmas. Weird...I knew I shouldn't have drank all those glasses of Sloe Gin!

Happy New Year boyeeeee!

Don't be shy, tell me what song would you like to hear this New Year's Eve at midnight? And what is your favourite New Year's Eve memory (if you have any!)?

Two thousand zero zero party over, oops out of time...click here to party like it's 1999!

Out of the last dozen or so New Year's Eves, I've probably been at work for nine or ten of them, so not many 'celebration' memories. Funnily enough, I'm at home tonight for a change but it'll be a quiet one with Mrs. Bear and the cubs. 'Rappers Delight' is great choice, by the way. Great songs to see the New Year in for me would be 'This Charming Man' by The Smiths, 'Bizarre Love Triangle' by New Order or 'Move On Up' by Curtis Mayfield. Happy New Year to all at Tune Doctor!

Thank you SB, happy new year to you! I've also been working 9 out of 10 new years', shift work can be a bummer. On an early start tomo so no big celebration here either, just a few tunes and bed! Tomorrow is another year!

U2's Where The Streets Have No Name, relayed live going from 1989 into 1990. Funnily enough watching same track right now on Glasto highlights from 2011. Best NYE? 1999 into 2000 in Brighton with some of the best friends I have ever had. Happy New Year all at Tune Doctor. Thanks for the tunes. Here's to a great 2012

Is this where Rap started or was it 'It's alright Ma, I'm only bleeding' ?

A good new year tune would be 'Tomorrow's Just Another Day' by Madness, but then I suppose it might bring the mood down a bit! I actually saw in 2013 watching the Neil Armstrong documentary on the BBC Iplayer on my laptop - what a man.

I first heard 'Rappers Delight' played at a Clash gig by their resident DJ Barry Myers - it stopped a lot of us in our tracks. Still an amazing piece of music.
