Nina Simone - Sinnerman/I Ain't got no, I Got Life

NINA SIMONE - Sinnerman (1965)

Did you watch the 2 part series over the festivities about the Great Train Robbery. I recorded it and watched it a couple of days ago. It was rather good. The first part was in the perspective of the Gang and part two was about the lead detective and how he eventually managed to arrest all the participants. Not a paticulary nice guy and it had me rooting for the Robbers.

Bruce Reynolds was the main man and the brains behind the operation. Ronnie Biggs was incredibly, just a small part player and was lucky (or unlucky) to be apart of it at all.  The gang were really quite amateurish and succeeded with a lot of luck. There were too many people in the gang and it was really doomed as soon as they did the job. If you get the chance it is certainly worth a watch.

The sound track was exceptional and the highlight was Nina Simone's version of Sinnerman which runs throughout both episodes.

What a track, but you have got to listen to the whole version. I believe it was also used in the film The Thomas Crown Affair.

For good measure take a look at this fabulous video below I found of Nina in London 1968 with her classic from Hair.

I love Nina Simone - full stop.

I did see the first of the thing about the train robbery but unfortunately missed the second part. I'm told that part two was the best bit.

I was never really interested in the Great Train Robbery, they were criminals and got their just desserts. I can see why they were seen as heroes as it was like sticking a middle finger up at the government. I'm no rebel unfortunately unlike Nina Simone she was the original rebel, Sinnerman is an amazing track but I Got Life makes me want to kill yogurt I've heard it so many times.
